About Malcolm Bale

Malcolm Bale started his combative arts training in Boxing with the “Rugby Irish Amateur Boxing Club” in his home town of Rugby, England. He was fortunate to have several great trainers running the club. Charlie Marshall, Steve Cotterill and Derek Linster all had a wealth of Boxing knowledge, it established not only sound boxing skills and a healthy attitude towards training but taught a solid foundation of essential elements for combat conditioning.

In fact, let’s go back a few more years when Malcolm was introduced to the World of Boxing by Ray Gwillam and the Rugby Welsh Boxing Club. It takes a special person like Ray who kept young kids off the street and out of trouble, at the same time developing a keen interest in Boxing. It did take the persuasion of lots of lemonade and chips after training but it seemed to do the trick.

Malcolm moved on to train with Dev Barrett and Clive Tennant in both Semi and Full contact Karate in Coventry, England. The club is part of the English Contact Karate Association (ECKA). Once again, Malcolm was very fortunate to have access to these great Instructors and a great school.

Since moving to Calgary, Canada in 2001, Malcolm has been training in Jiu-Jitsu under Instructor Steve Hiscoe. Head Instructor of Hiscoe Jiu Jitsu / Can Ryu Jiu Jitsu in Chilliwack, BC, Canada. It is a modern style of Jiu-Jitsu that has been dedicated towards Self Defense yet kept right up to date with the latest developments in the art.

Boxing and Karate have proved to be a very good foundation on which to build. Striking is still a major area of Ju-Jitsu and it is important to blend with various other elements, such as throwing, groundwork and joint manipulations.

Malcolm’s Mother was involved in Ju-Jitsu for many years under the Instruction of Master John Farkas so an interest in Ju-Jitsu has been long established.
