Teaching kids at an early age the value of discipline and respect can go a long way.
It was great to see our own Club – Jiu Jitsu Calgary in action on CBC News yesterday when they were reporting on a study by the British Medical Journal who tracked nearly 4000 children, born in the UK in 1946.
About a quarter of these children between the ages of 13 and 15 in the study were identified for Bad behaviour in adolescence in areas such as Disobedience, lying, Lack of Punctuality, Skipping Class, Restlessness and Day Dreaming in Class.
The follow up study which was done about 40 years later, showed that troubled kids commonly became troubled adults and more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety, have troubled families and various other troubles throughout their lives.
It is great to know that we can make such a big difference in the lives of many people by helping to build good attributes in them while they are still children, avoiding much of the potential bad behavior in adolescence.
