Much More Than Punching and Kicking

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Martial Arts is so much more than Punching and Kicking for both adults and children.

There are so many benefits to be gained through Martial Arts ranging from increasing Confidence and Self Esteem, to encouraging Discipline, Self Discipline, Respect, Focus and Excellence. The increase in strength, coordination, balance and flexibility.

Martial Arts can help us to think about ourselves and assist in our own Personal Development.

There can be many health benefits gained through a good Martial Arts Program, in fact have a read of the following Testimonial from one of my own students, it’s something that helps us to realise just how much of a difference we can make in people’s lives:

My Doctor actually shook my hand and said he had never seen such a drastic change in a persons health…

“I started training in Ju Jitsu 6 months ago. Having been severely overweight (100 pound plus) I was somewhat reluctant to begin any kind of regiment that would interfere with my less than healthy lifestyle. Fortunately I started a new job where I got to know Sensei Malcolm.

After about 6 months of prodding by him, and procrastinating by myself, I decided to give it a try. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
When I started I had the usual fears of starting a new program with a lot of people who had been there longer and had more training than myself, but the fears were soon put to rest by the helpfulness of the people that I thought I would feel intimidated by. Not only were they eager to help, but they also gave me the confidence to pursue a complete change in my life as well as my attitude towards it.

Maybe someday you may see my story in a book, with the foreword being a tribute to Sensei Malcolm,  Kelly also helped me develop a better nutritional plan than the fast food one that I had taught myself, and the other students who constantly surprise me with their support.

Drop by the club and feel free to talk Sensei Malcolm or myself about the complete life change that I have achieved with the help of this training.
If you knew me then and now you wouldn’t believe it, I still have trouble doing so. And if I can do it so can you.

Just a footnote, after getting a physical examination after training for only 4 months, my Doctor actually shook my hand and said he had never seen such a drastic change in a persons health, which by the way he said is now perfect.

Thank you“.

Alex Wilson

I’m sure you will agree that Martial Arts has had quite the impact on Alex’s life. Let me assure you that this is not a one-off, many people have experienced the health and Fitness benefits from being involved in a Martial Arts Program.

Maybe Martial Arts will help you reach your goals too!

Inspiration – Always think Positive thoughts

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Being Positive not only in sport but life in general is so important, here is an article I particularly like. Some “Food for Thought”.

Always Think Positive Thoughts – by Shelley Taylor Smith (Former Long Distance Swimmer and Holder of 7 World Titles)

Things turn out best for those people
who can make the best out of the way things turn out.
It’s not the situation, it’s your response to the situation.
The reality in your life may result from many outside factors,
none of which you can control, or can you?

Your attitude, however,
reflects the ways in which you deal with what is happening to you.
Life at any time can become difficult.
Life at any time can become easy.
It all depends on how you adjust yourself to life.

You cannot always control your circumstances.
But, you can control your own thoughts.
There is nothing, neither good nor bad,
only your thinking makes it so.

Never Stop Learning

Monday, July 28th, 2008

To never stop learning has always been a familiar concept for the Japanese, and learning over a long period of time became an integral part of lifestyle. Continuous Education is a concept that has become very popular throughout the Western world in more recent times.

The code of the Samurai required that warriors also became highly trained, not only in fighting but skilled in Literature, including Poetry and other Fine Arts. The Samurai continued honing their physical and mental combat skills as their lives depended on it. The theory to never stop learning was of utmost importance.

There are stories of some very famous Samurai who had become undefeatable in battle through years of training and then continued this effort to never stop learning throughout their entire lives in order to fulfill their lifelong goals.

Self Improvement is highly popular and it is now very common for people throughout the World to continue the trait to never stop learning and to continue developing throughout life.

Heraclitus Definition on Being a Warrior

Friday, July 18th, 2008

I love this Definition of a Warrior by Heraclitus in 500 BC –

Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there,

Eighty are just targets,

Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them,

for they make the battle.

Ah, but the one,

One is a Warrior,

And he will bring the others back.
