To be effective in Self Defense, simple Jiu Jitsu Skills are what you should be practicing. Most people are not capable of carrying out complex movements in a high stress situation so simple Jiu Jitsu Skills involving only Gross Motor skills should become a major part of your sessions.
Gross motor skills are simple body movements that virtually all people are capable of performing.
It is amazing to discover exactly how effective you can be using such simple Jiu Jitsu techniques. In early days of training, most students assume that techniques should be made up of complex or intricate movements so are amazed how steep their learning curve is and how quickly they can become confident in applying such techniques.
Do not ease up on practicing the basics, they form the all important foundation of the Art. Build a strong foundation through simple Jiu Jitsu skills and then build on it.
