I listened to an interview with Evander Holyfield and he came out with some words that I find to be quite fascinating:
“You have to learn how not to get in someone else’s lane and stay in your lane and use what you have because in Boxing, I never was the shortest person, I never was the tallest person, I didn’t have the longest arms but I didn’t have the shortest arms either. I wasn’t the fastest one but I wasn’t the slowest one either and I didn’t hit harder than everybody but I hit harder than some people.
That was nothing I could actually complain about, the fact is I had to learn to use what’s been given to me, what god has blessed me with and use it to my advantage.
I learned to minimize my mistakes. If I can minimize my mistakes, there’s a great chance that I can win. That’s what people don’t understand because when people get fatigued, they start making mistakes. When you start making mistakes, you start beating yourself and eventually put yourself in a position where you helping the other guy out he’s trying to win anyway and now you’re helping him because you’re making all these mistakes.
A great fighter is not afraid to take chances”.
Such great words from a great Champion – Evander Holyfield.
