Jiu Jitsu Grading
msb12 | January 31st, 2010

There is a great deal of benefit to be gained by students of Martial Arts. The benefit to kids are huge in helping them grow and develop. There is also a great deal of benefit to be gained by adults, Martial Arts can be both physically and mentally challenging.

The video below shows some of the throws that were performed by 2 adult students at the end of their Grading. These techniques were purposely added to see how the students performed when they were already physically exhausted. It’s times like this when you have to dig a little deeper and find those additional energy supplies.

I’m sure you will agree, they performed very well.

Jiu Jitsu Hip Throw
msb12 | May 19th, 2009

The Hip Throw is one of the base techniques from which so many other throws and take-downs have been developed. Get to grips with the Hip Throw and really understand what makes this throw effective and you will find the other throws so much easier.

The Hip Throw is made much more effective when you can take advantage of your opponents Momentum.

Jiu Jitsu Hold Downs
msb12 | May 18th, 2009

There are several elements involved in a Jiu Jitsu Technique. Many Techniques involve the use of Hold Downs. There are many Hold Downs available using different parts of your body and targeting different parts of your opponents body.

Hold downs can also be called submissions or joint Locks. The one shown below uses the leg to restrain the shoulder. You can see that it would not take much more of an effort to continue the technique and cause a joint dislocation.

Two Knee Pick Up
msb12 | May 17th, 2009

A Throw that we utilise in Training at Jiu Jitsu Calgary is the Two Knee Pick Up

All of our Take Downs are simple, effective and can be carried out by virtually all people. The throw is even more simple than it looks, especially when you have discovered how to break your oppositions balance prior to carrying out this take-down,
